Each stitch is made with her whole heart…..embroidery by hand

“Shono” from “The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” by Hiroshige Utagawa

A piece of thread itself bears just one colour, however her work shows the blended colours and the layers of a number of different threads, like paintings. Waves, mountains, trees, cliff, shadow of grass, sunlight, straw sandals, straw raincoats, people’s legs and skin, and so on, made me imagine very small needles and fine threads and I felt it was so delicate. I felt the deep and strong breath of hers from such a small body, who created this work. She is dear and so human. I thought that her life must be so dear and it made me think of mine. I felt like I learnt a great fact which is “Human beings can achieve truly great things”.
